Day 2 - Passau, cruising the Danube River
Featured Excursions: Passau walking tour and St. Stephan’s organ concert
Passau’s historic wealth through trade is reflected in the beauty of
its Medieval merchants’ houses. The city’s Italian Baroque buildings,
erected after the big fire of 1662, match the historic town center with
its winding little streets and narrow alleyways. These streets will
lead us to St. Stephan’s Cathedral for an organ concert on Europe’s

Day 3 - Linz (Salzburg or Gmunden/Steyr)

Today’s adventure takes you to Salzburg, a UNESCO World Heritage Site
known for its well-preserved Medieval town core and musical heritage.
During your guided walking tour, marvel at the city’s 15th-century
cathedral; stroll its famous shopping street, Getreidegasse, where you
can also pass by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s childhood home; and admire
the Mirabellgarten, which was featured in the beloved film The Sound of Music.
If you already discovered Salzburg in the past, perhaps during Mozart’s
250th celebration a few years ago, this time you can opt for a
three-quarter-day visit to Gmunden and Steyr. Quaint Gmunden will
delight you with its Alpine panorama, and Steyr has one of the
best-preserved Old Towns in Austria. Its lovely historic center houses
the famed Bummerlhaus (“plump little dog”)—one of the finest pieces of

Day 4 - Melk, cruising the Wachau Valley, Dürnstein

Awaken in Melk; from the ship you can see Melk's resplendent 900-year-old abbey situated high atop the
granite cliffs of the Danube. After breakfast, enjoy a guided tour of this
Benedictine abbey, a breathtaking masterpiece of Baroque art and
architecture whose famous library was an inspiration for The Name of
the Rose.
Then embark on a scenic cruise through the vineyard-rich, UNESCO World Heritage-designated Wachau
Valley—one of the most beautiful river valleys in Europe, where some of
Austria’s finest white wines are produced. You'll arrive in the tiny Baroque village of Dürnstein just in time for a visit to Domäne
Wachau for a tasting of the famous Wachau Valley Rieslings. This
award-winning, quality-oriented cooperative is deeply rooted in the
Wachau region, and its members cultivate about 30% of the entire Wachau

Day 5 - Vienna

Vienna is a treasure trove of secular and sacred gems, including St.
Stephen’s Cathedral and the stately Ringstrasse—the broad thoroughfare
surrounded by the many imperial buildings and monuments that give
Vienna its wedding cake appearance. After your panoramic drive through
the city, you will start a walking tour through the Hofburg grounds
that will culminate at the magnificent Baroque State Hall of the
Austrian National Library, said to be the most beautiful library room
in the world. Or choose to “See Vienna as the Viennese Do” with an
intimate walking tour of Vienna’s historic center, where you’ll travel
by foot and subway with the locals. Along the way, enjoy a
quintessentially Viennese experience—a stop in a traditional coffee

"Spacious junior suite, friendly & professional staff, delicious food. Interesting itinerary with excellent local guides. Danube was flooding due to rain so our itinerary had to change a bit, but Uniworld handled changes smoothly & compensated lost time & tours in Vienna with expanded tours in Budapest. (We were on the Passau to Budapest route)."
